THE ANGER OF THE FURIES

5

''Theano, where are you going? A storm is coming.”

Milo's words just cought his daughter up, before she left her father alone. The man built the house with his own hands which in her first then years functioned as home to Theano.

''Flecky wants to show me something by the well.” the little girl was so excited, that she didn't strike that painfully sigh which Milo received her words with.

''I'm sorry, my child, but today you can not meet your friend.”

''But I've already given him a promise.” responded Theano.

The disobedience was always far from her. Now in her eyes and were rather sadness and incomprehension than resistance and rebellion. Because of it Milo gave thank to the gods.

''I'll be back soon, I promise!” seeing her imploring look Milo felt his heart broke. He knew Theano's every single day of her ten years free from cares, once this day will come but he didn't think in his worst nightmares, either, that he had to tell her the truth about her descent.

''My child, listened to me!” the man crouched down for her. While he was searching for the convenient words, despite all his best efforts, he succeeded to bring forth her rebel nature which was hidden in Theano so far. ''You can never meet Pythagoras anymore.”

Hearing these words, the little girl wrenched herself from Milo's arms and ran sobbing into her chamber. She slammed the door behind her with such vehemence that the walls of the house trembled.

Leaving alone Flecky? Her father musth have lost his mind! It's absolutely sure!

She looked her chamber up and down.  She loved this place, the whole house, but she loved Flecky more than these things! She'd leave rather the house than her best friend! With this thought she opened the window which looked onto the gardenback. Above it dark strorm-clouds were gathering – as if they would have reflected her mood, she thought; then as softly as she could, she slinked to the outside. It will rain, but it doesn't matter. The lightning and the thunder couldn't stop her to achieve her aim. Her goal was simple: to be with Flecky and to forget everything and everyone else.

''Where are you heading for, missy?”

Theano was startled hearing the foreign voice, then with shivery heart because of the fear she looked up the strange figures. They were as tall as giants.

Milo knew well, he couldn't be waxybecause Theano locked herself up in her room. It was painful to him to see the little girl, who he loved so much, but it was even more horrible him to think of Theano's feelings. After a few minutes he decided to go after her to clean this whole situation once and for all.

Theano has to know the truth!

In front of the door of the chamber he stopped short. He knocked ((on the door)), he called the little girl continually but he didn't get an answer. A while later, when the certain foreboding was stronger, which he knew only from hearing so far, he carefully entered through the door.

The little girl was missing!

The whole world turned over with Milo within a few seconds, then he listened to the knocking.

''Do you look after the missy like this?” one of the two high, strange blokes asked it from the master of the house. He found his voice first. The other one nodded to Theano to step inside.

''We found her in the garden.” the child, although she heard the words, and she knew exactly; she couldn't think about anything but the escape. To be with Flecky, as soon as possible!

''It seems, we have to clean a lot of things, before the missy comes with us.”Hearing this Theano also jerk up her head.

''I'll not go with you anywhere! Daddy, please, tell them!” she appealed to Milo who painfully sighed. He had already known what the child hadn't. He knew this day would come once. He knew what his duty was. And after the next few hours Theano had to realize everything happened and happens for her own good – in a way.

''I can not do it, my child. But while the rules allow me, I'll stay with you. You have nothing to be afraid of.”

''Rules? What rules?” Theano's voice became thin. Anything milled around the background, it was certain, it wasn't laughting matter. I wish Flecky was here! He was able to explain the things to me I understood.

''My child, these people came here to take you with themselves...” he was unable to say to her, so it devolved on the one of the men to conclude the thought. And he did it loftily, in a most dignifield tone:

''… to Poseidon.”

''Well, you can tell that old man that I won't leave my father just because a foreign someone wishes me to! Even then I won't do this, if his parents gave him our god's name.”

Theano dared them. Her words brought tears of pride to Milo's eyes. However none of them could change the order of events. This was the agreement a decade ago.

On the men's faces a smile appeared. On second thought, this was the first time when Theano found in them something humane.

''Poseidon is not an old man, as you said. He is a higher god. And His wish is command to every earthly mortal being. So this is not working as you would like, missy. I'm sorry but you have no choice.”

''Of course I have!” and then she proudly repeated what she learned from Flecky: ''In life you always have a choice. But sometimes it's easier to think that you don't.”

''Theano!” Milo's voice now sounded more determinated than ever and this was the very first time when he inspired fear in the little girl.

''Do not be too strict with the missy, Milo!” one of the men soothed him. ''It's unaffected she has got some questions.”

''And we are here to answer all of them.” added the other.

''What does this higher god want from me?” it was her first question.

''He wants to teach the missy all he has already known.”

''Thus everything.” posited the other man.

''Why? Why am I so important to him? I think you confus me with someone else. I'm not special. My life is totally unremarkable.”

''My child...” she heard now her father's voice, which this time rang calmly ''...this is happening to us, to you, because Poseidon, who now wishes to see you and mean to teach you, well, he is...” he took a deep breath. He had never thought it will be so hard to disclose the truth before Theano: ''He is your true father.”
